June 18: "Magic 8 Ball" with Lisa Pradhan

Magic 8 Ball
Performance by Lisa Pradhan
Monday, June 18, 2018
7-9pm
You're invited to join Phosphor Project Space in welcoming artist Lisa Pradhan for a performance of her interactive piece Magic 8 Ball, which will take place within the New Residences exhibition on June 18, 2018 from 7-9pm.

Magic 8 Ball invites the viewer to reimagine trust in consensual physical touch in a soft, silly way. For the space of two hours Lisa will be engaging with gallery visitors in an exchange that uses chance and personal inquiry to connect with participants one-on-one. Visitors are encouraged to spend time in the gallery engaging with the space, performer, and each other.

Lisa writes about the piece:

"Often one of the hardest intimacies for me is just being comfortable with the most seemingly random gestures and experiences of connection. After practicing somatic coaching and feeling more confident identifying and naming my wants and desires, I began asking my friends for longer hugs. I found that often my friends, especially those who are also Asian womxn, longed for platonic, physical touch and intimacy just like me but were unsure of how and what to ask. I want to use "Magic 8 Ball” to help folx imagine new possibilities for themselves in fun ways."

LISA PRADHAN is a Newari, multimedia artist and organizer who grew up glitched in the socal suburb of Rancho Bernardo. Conceptually obsessed with the states of living (ex. joy, illinx, hygge), Lisa looks to create the “impossible” through somatic, performance, and digital work. Lisa’s shown at the Asian Art Museum, the Pacific Heritage Museum, and AS Gallery and co-curated the Performing Arts showcase for Kearny Street Workshop’s (KSW) APAture 2017: Unravel and Appendix’s </3.
